Intility — Facade Lighting Installation

Oslo,  2023

The Intility building at Schweigaards gate 39 in Oslo features a dynamic facade lighting system designed to bring movement, flexibility and a distinct visual identity to the architecture. The installation uses individually controlled RGBW light fixtures across all four facades, allowing the building to shift between subtle everyday lighting and more expressive displays for special occasions.

BN Visuals, with Birk Nygaard responsible for software and programming, developed the control system that brings the installation together. The custom solution makes it possible to control hundreds of lighting fixtures individually through an intuitive graphical interface, translating complex technical possibilities into a flexible and accessible tool for shaping the building’s appearance.

The project combines architectural lighting, custom software and precise control to create a system that is both practical and expressive. In 2023, the project received the Norwegian Lighting Prize in the category for Best Technical Solution/Product, recognising its innovative approach to facade lighting and control.
